The Journey of Helen Knows Nursing
My journey as an educator started over 20 years ago, but my passion for nursing began long before that. After working as a registered nurse for decades, I transitioned into academia, teaching at two major universities and a community college. I recognized that while nursing students were dedicated and hardworking, many struggled with understanding how to approach complex material and study for exams. I knew there had to be a better way to help them succeed.
Where It All Began
A Game-Changing Realization
As I worked closely with students, I saw patterns emerge, capable future nurses were struggling, not because they weren’t not smart but because they weren’t equipped with the right learning strategies. I developed a system to simplify and structure nursing content, making it more easier to retain. These methods started transforming students’ grades, and I realized I needed to reach more students beyond my classroom.
Overcoming the Challenges
The road wasn’t always easy. Many students came to me feeling completely lost—like Hattie, a second-semester BSN student whose GPA had dropped from 3.5 to 2.9. Despite her best efforts, her study habits weren’t translating into better test scores. She was overwhelmed, exhausted, and terrified of failing. I knew she wasn’t alone; hundreds of nursing students face the same struggle.
That’s why I created my programs, designed to help students like Hattie regain control over their grades. My strategies have been tested with over 2,000 nursing students, helping them not only pass their exams but also develop confidence in their knowledge. Now, through Helen Knows Nursing, I offer courses and coaching that provide real, proven solutions to the challenges nursing students face every day.

Helen Knows Nursing is an educational and coaching business dedicated to helping student nurses master their coursework, pass their exams, and confidently transition into their careers as registered nurses.
With over 50 years as a doctoral-prepared RN and nurse educator, I have worked with over 2,000 nursing students, guiding them to graduation and success on the NCLEX. Nursing school is challenging—the material is exciting, tedious, and often overwhelming. Having taught students in the classroom, simulation labs, and at the bedside, I understand how to break down information so you can learn, retain, and apply it effectively.
